Call for Papers for Special Session “Multilingual Speech Processing”
Introduction
- Oriental languages involve some common properties as well as sufficient diversity in acoustic, phonetic, lexical and linguistic aspects, leading to interesting questions such as which languages share more and which languages are more discriminant, and how the commonality and diversity can be used to assist speech processing research. This special session focuses on multilingual speech processing for oriental languages, including but not limited to the following topics:
- Multilingual phonetic and phonological analysis
- Multilingual speech recognition
- Multilingual speaker recognition
- Multilingual speech synthesis
- Multilingual language understanding
- To assist the research on multilingual speech processing, the special session offers a multilingual speech database AP16-OL7 (provided by Speechocean (http://www.speechocean.com)) that involves 7 languages, 80h of speech data in total, as well as the associated resources. Participants to the special session can apply for AP16-OL7 for free if they need data to evaluate their research.

Call for Submissions to the oriental language recognition (OLR) challenge
Introduction
The AP16-OL7 database involves 7 oriental languages, 80h of speech signals in total. This special session calls for a multilingual language recognition challenge based on this database.
- The participants to the challenge are encouraged to submit the system design and results to the special session “multilingual speech processing”, although they don’t have to.
- Since the test data will be released later than the paper submission deadline, you can use the dev set for your paper publication.
